It was interesting to read the comments posted about the Miami concert on 23rd Oct, 2006, because I could have just cut and pasted them here. This was a very disappointing concert. Eric made no attempt to engage the audience at all. The set seemed to be worked out in advance, and they just seemed to be getting it over and done with.

The majority of the concert was just the band taking it in turns to do solos, you couldn't even call it jamming as there was little interplay. The majority of these from the members of the backing band just did not add to the song at all. Eric's solos were good without being great. The whole thing was tired, predictable and very, very disappointing.

I last saw Eric in Sydney in the mid 70's, so maybe my expectations were a bit high as his backing band then was exceptional. Eric is also obviously not as young as he used to be, and he admits himself that he can't do the things that he used to. But if I had known that I was going to spend the majority of the night listening to uninspired playing from the backing band I wouldn't have bothered. Even Cocaine disappeared into a mish mash of pointless solos.

I don't know if it was because it was the last concert of a leg of the tour, as the Miami concert was. I will continue to be an Eric Clapton fan, but if he tours again I will check closely the schedule and the credentials of the band.

I've come home a bit disappointed to be honest. From the start Clapton looked like he didn't want to be there and his only interaction with the crowd was a 'good evening' at the beginning and a 'goodnight' at the end. Most of the crowd looked bored to tears for the first hour as Clapton and co. performed solo after solo after solo, each trying to add their 2 cents on to every track, but it was laborious and self-indulgent. The highlight of the night was watching the young looking blonde haired guitarist (Trucks?) he was an amazing player and everyone i spoke to said he out-performed Clapton. I've waited years to see Clapton and after Roger Waters blew me away 2 nights ago this was very disappointing to say the least.
