Rolling Hotel DVD
"Rolling Hotel"- DVD
In 1979 Eric Clapton put his band in a three-carriage train originally at the disposal of Hermann Goering during the Nazi years in Germany, and travelled from town to town on the Continent, from one concert to the next. It was an easy way to transport and house the band and its equipment, and it offered ample opportunity for interviews, group interactions, and filming. Clapton talks about his music and his work and peaks the viewer's interest with stories about musicians like Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison. Interviews are balanced with performances by Muddy Walters, Elton John, and George Harrison, as well as Clapton and his band in full concert.

Good quality DVD full of insights, humour, pathos and reality -warts and all! Agree that it is a must for EC fans but may not appeal to the broader market. I don't regret adding it to my collection and am grateful that Gareth has made this available to us. |

Just a short review from me. This DVD is just fantastic and a true must for every true Clapton-fan. No doubt it has been a hard but funny lifestyle and the late seventies! Also very good quality of the DVD. You must have it :o) |

At last! It's great to see all of the footage used in the "Man and his Music" in one hit. This film shows a relaxed Eric having fun (or as much fun as you can have on a train). I loved the bit where Eric is grilling Robert Stigwood about the Bee Gees (and I agree). The music is very good also there is a fair split between the interviews and the music. I also enjoyed the extras some brilliant playing although Mick Jagger was a bit pithy, perhaps he was jealous? Very enjoyable over all and shows Eric to be what he is an all round diamond geezer. |

If you are a serious EC fan, You will love this! If you are just a casual fan, there is probably other footage that might be more interesting. I found the interviews of a young, and some what intoxicated EC, very interesting. This is really a must have for the EC collector. The music quality is not great. The "real world" aspect of cameras on the train makes it worth while. Buy this for the footage not the music. |
