I have been looking for this album since I became aware that Eric has played in it. Unlike some people trashing the effort it is a great experimentation effort and actually one can feel Eric's ideas warming to Pilgrim. I think Simon did a great production work on Eric's post-Retail Therapy album which probably would not have resulted if this album was not collaborated. I would strongly recommend this album to anyone who is remotely interested in Eric Clapton and his music. It is great album like the way Journeyman saw a new direction of Eric.

This CD is interesting on several levels. It is refreshing to hear EC branch out and try new and different things. Great driving music. Some really pretty things too. My Eric Clapton tribute band, Slowhand, uses Retail Therapy as warm up music and between the opener and main show. We usually get at least a few comments on the choice, nearly always favourable. This CD is a must for any serious Clapton collector.

Speaking as a Clapton fanatic since Cream days and before, this is WEIRD! Firstly, this is NOT normally my kind of music AT ALL... nor is it Clapton as I know him... BUT it is DAMN GOOD! Highly recommended!

Recently, I finally found a copy of this mostly instrumental album.  Eric used the alias "X-Sample" and produced it with Simon Climie. It was released in 1997, just prior to the "Pilgrim" disc.  Eric mixes his acoustic and electric guitar with beats and samples on most of the tracks.  You'll find some tracks that don't sound like something you would expect from Eric.  Highlights include Blue Rock (probably influenced Moby to do "Natural Blues"), Angelica (New Age Acoustic Vibe), Pnom-Sen (Acoustic with a Funky Drummer), Sno-God (Rave Workout), Sienna (Lover's Instrumental Slow Jam), Donna (New Age Acoustic Vibe), Rip Stop (Drum and Bass vs. Eric).

I didn't give it a 10 because that is reserved for his Classic Stuff, but this is better than the critics say it is. Thanks again Eric!
